André LHOTE (1885–1962)

André Lhote (1885-1962) was a French painter, sculptor, and writer. He was born in Bordeaux and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was influenced by Cubism and was a member of the Section d’Or group. Lhote is known for his paintings of landscapes and still lifes. He also wrote several books on art. Lhote was an influential art teacher, and his students included Henri Cartier-Bresson and Tamara De Lempicka. He was also a prolific writer, and his writings on art were published in many newspapers and magazines. Lhote’s work has been exhibited in many museums around the world, including the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Lhote’s style is characterized by its use of geometric shapes and its simplified forms. His work is often described as being lyrical and poetic. Lhote’s writings on art are also an important part of his legacy. In his books, he discussed his theories on Cubism and his views on the role of art in society. Lhote was a major figure in 20th-century art. His work has had a lasting impact on the art world.
