Sandoz’s Fennec is emblematic of the artist’s talent for capturing both the elegance and vitality of the animal world. Depicted in an alert posture, the small desert fox is frozen in a pose that is both realistic and stylized, its large ears standing upright to catch the slightest sounds in its surroundings. The flowing, taut lines of its body convey the animal’s watchfulness and agility. The patinated bronze highlights the fennec’s clean, simplified volumes, characteristic of the Art Deco style in which Sandoz’s work is rooted. The surface is smooth, almost graphic, emphasizing sharp contours and harmonious proportions.
