BIOGRAPHY

Georges LAPCHINE (1855-1951)

Georges LAPCHINE : Russian painter, born in Moscow in 1885. Died in 1951. Painter of figures, landscapes, post-impressionist. A pupil of Fernand Cormon and Léon Lhermitte, he regularly exhibited at the French Salon. Russian painter in exile, Lapchine mainly painted the Russian landscapes of his youth, but also Mediterranean views of post-impressionist style. Although of classic invoice, Lapchine’s painting is clear, and underwent the influence of Impressionism. He likes to paint the variations of the light through the seasons, the effects of evening or morning. Its snowy landscapes are the most sought after.
