BIOGRAPHY

Marcel GROMAIRE (1892-1971)

Born July 24, 1892 in Noyelles-sur-Sambre (North), died April 11, 1971 in Paris, French. Painter of typical subjects, nudes, portraits, landscapes, urban landscapes, mountain landscapes, painter of tapestry cartons, engraver, draftsman, illustrator. Post-Cubist. He attended class at the Ranson, Colarossi and Palette academies, but was formed by a critical examination, quite rare in a beginner, for a most recent expressions of modern painting. He was a professor at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris. He traveled to Germany, England, Belgium and Holland. He participated in many collective exhibitions, including the Salon d’Automne, the Independent Artists, where he presented in 1925 “The War”. This painting perfectly expressed the permanent feeling of the painter, who, haunted by geometry as well as many of the best of his generation, was attached to the expression of humanity, of sensible life.
