Émile BOUTIGNY (1854-1929)

Born March 11, 1854 in Paris. Died in 1929. French. Painter of history and military subjects. Pupil of Cabanel at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1876 to 1929, obtaining a third class medal in 1884, a second medal in 1889, a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1899 and 1900. He also exhibited in Chicago. He was made Knight of the Legion of Honor. Military painter, he made a huge billboard for the city of Tourcoing, recounting the Battle of Tourcoing, May 19, 1794. He illustrated the songs of the soldier Paul Deroulede.
