Felix-Joseph BARRIAS (1822-1907)

 

 

Born September 13th, 1822 in Paris, died in January 25th, 1907 in Paris. Historical Painter, genre scenes, portraits, mural paintings, academic painter. Felix Joseph Barrias is the son of the miniaturist Barrias. He studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts of Paris, under the leadership of L. Cogniet. During 65 years, he regularly exposed at different Parisian Fairs. He received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1844, the Legion d’Honneur’s medal and Ordre de Leopold de Belgique’s medal. Even though he was an academic painter, he authorized himself to be more creative in his composition’s paintings like his artwork  “La Procession”.
